The controller converts the radio signals into electrical pulses and sends them to the crane's motor controllers.

Although remote control technology can be purchased already installed in new cranes, it may also, in many cases, be retrofitted onto existing ones.

To retrofit a crane, you must first replace its magnetic motor control system with an electronic one.

It is also necessary that the brakes be equipped for emergency use and connected with existing motor controls—for example, hydraulic brakes traditionally operated via foot pedal must be converted so as to allow electronic actuation.

The radio system operates on a non-licensed frequency band of 433.10 - 434.75 MHz or 915 MHz, with typical operating range up to 300 ft line of sight (no obstacles).
